Research: Community Health Development
Before venturing to Uganda each of us was asked to select a topic that we’d be interested in researching. I decided to focus on health services developed and implemented collaboratively between academic partners and community members. My aim was to concentrate particularly on programs that are partially maintained by community members. Below you will find my final presentation with my group mate Brett. Within the subpages you will find specific information about the three project we focused on (MakaPads, Clean Water Tanks, Growth Promotion Program). We say a lot however I have included a few more notes, pictures and videos to let you know more about what I learned. (I apologize about the random noise, we were in the city). Ken thank you so much for recording!
These are just a few examples of what Uganda is doing to meet the needs of their people. They are strategically approaching the problems making certain that they are embracing the community. While in Uganda I was reminded that to help someone is not to say they are helpless. I believe it is important as future health care providers especially those interested in serving the under served that we realize this. It is important to acknowledge the resources, experiences and knowledge within a community first and work WITH them towards a common goal.
